Crypto at Risk from AI Deepfakes, Binance Reacts

AI-Powered Scams Threaten Crypto, Binance Acts

Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, faces a new wave of cyber threats as AI-powered fraudsters exploit facial recognition systems. Scammers use advanced deepfake technology to replicate users' faces, bypassing biometric authentication and gaining unauthorised access to users' accounts.

Criminals use publicly available selfies, leaked identification documents and online videos to build convincing facial models. Many are already logged into the Binance account in combination with stolen devices.

The company has taken a broader move to protect its users by increasing public awareness through in-app alerts, blog posts, and direct notifications. Users are advised to avoid sharing facial images online, secure their devices with a strong password, and enable two-factor authentication (2fa) for all logins.

"Our priority is user safety," said Binance CEO Richard Teng. "We're strengthening our defences and urging the crypto community to stay informed and vigilant."

In addition to fake hack threats, Binance has also issued a separate warning about a rising SMS spoofing scam targeting crypto users globally. Despite the challenges, Binance remains focused on its long-term goals, expanding its global user base and making crypto accessible to billions of people worldwide.
